{"title": "Population based surveillance for colonization or infection with carbapenamse producing Enterobacterales (CPE)", "author_url": "http://www.tibdn.ca/author/admin", "html": "<p>\r\n\t<code>Status:&nbsp; Currently Recruiting</code></p>\r\n<h2>\r\n\tWhy are we doing this?</h2>\r\n<p>\r\n\tCPE are a type of antimicrobial resistance rated as one of the highest antimicrobial resistant threats by both the World Health Organization and the United States CDC.</p>\r\n<p>\r\n\tOur goal is to continue to provide clinicians in south-central Ontario with information about how this new form of antimicrobial is evolving, and how it is best prevented and managed.</p>\r\n<h2>\r\n\tObjectives</h2>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>\r\n\t\tTo describe the incidence, clinical features and outcomes of colonization/infection with CPE</li>\r\n\t<li>\r\n\t\tTo assess the risk of infection in persons identified as colonized with CPE</li>\r\n\t<li>\r\n\t\tTo determine the rate of transmission of CPE within households</li>\r\n\t<li>\r\n\t\tTo assess the duration of colonization with CPE, and factors associated with persistent colonization.</li>\r\n</ul>\r\n<h2>\r\n\tWho is being asked to participate?</h2>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>\r\n\t\tAnyone who is a resident of Toronto and Peel Region and who is identified as colonized or infected with CPE</li>\r\n</ul>\r\n<h2>\r\n\tIf I agree to participate, what will I need to do?</h2>\r\n<p>\r\n\tIf you agree to participate you will be consenting to:</p>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>\r\n\t\tbeing interviewed for approximately 10-15 minutes risk factors for exposure to CPE</li>\r\n\t<li>\r\n\t\tthe release of information about you medical history from the hospital</li>\r\n\t<li>\r\n\t\tthe release of information about previous vaccinations and antibiotics from your family doctor</li>\r\n\t<li>\r\n\t\thaving any left-over specimens that tested positive for CPE sent to the study laboratory for storage and possible future testing.</li>\r\n\t<li>\r\n\t\tConsidering participating in studies of how long CPE colonization persists and whether it can be passed on to close household contacts.</li>\r\n</ul>\r\n<h2>\r\n\tHow long will the study last?</h2>\r\n<p>\r\n\tThis study has been running since&nbsp;2015&nbsp;at all TIBDN hospitals.</p>\r\n<h2>\r\n\tAre there any risks to participating in this study?</h2>\r\n<p>\r\n\tThere are no physical risks for you in taking part in this study. You are not being given any medication and no change in your treatment will result from your participation. You may find the interviews or questions upsetting or distressing or you may not like all of the questions that you are asked. You may refuse to answer questions or stop interviews at any time if you are uncomfortable. We take every precaution to protect your personal information. Any information and left-over test sample you provide to the study is confidential and is identified only by a study code number.
