Methodology

Objectives

Determine the incidence and epidemiologic characteristics of invasive disease due to TIBDN pathogens.

Data collection

Data is collected from interviews with patients and review of health records.

Surveillance population

Surveillance area for population based studies is Metropolitan Toronto and the Region of Peel (population ~4 milion).

Laboratory characterization

Testing and typing information for TIBDN pathogens.

Case ascertainment

Eligible cases are actively reported by the participating laboratories.

Surveillance evaluation

To ensure that all eligible surveillance cases are being reported, annual audits of reporting laboratories are performed.
